Repeat Prescriptions

Patients on long-term medication can order repeat prescriptions in a number of ways:

• In person - drop the white tear-off slip attached to your previous prescription in the box provided at reception with the required items clearly marked.
• By post - send it to us with a stamped addressed envelope if you want us to post it back to you.
• By fax - to 0121 322 4481
• Online - follow the link at the top of this page to complete a simple one-off registration.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account. Prescriptions ordered before 10:30 will be ready for collection after 12:00 two days later.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

• Prescription costs as of April 1 2014

  • The current prescription charge is £9.65 (£16.10 per pair of elastic hosiery).
  • A three monthly PPC is £31.25. This saves you money if you need four or more items in three months. 
  • A 12-month certificate is £111.60 and saves money if 13 or more items are needed in 12 months.

  PPCs are available by 10 monthly direct debit instalment payments. The prescription prepayment certificates allow anyone to obtain all the prescriptions they need for £2 per week.
