Cancer Screening Awareness Programme –
Breast Screening – Screening Nurse Rose Isaacs was there holding a stall from 9.30 till 2PM. She did the presentation in the adjoining room for the ladies about the breast care and the symptoms. About 20 ladies attended the presentation the feedback from the GP present in the talks & the ladies was very positive as all the ladies said they had learnt a lot regarding breast awareness & the importance of going for their screening.
Lady GP was present to overcome the language barrier – screening information was also provided in different languages relevant to the community needs.
Bowel Screening – The team spoke to about 30 people; some were younger than screening age but interested in healthy lifestyle choices for themselves and would pass information on to family members. Those that were screening age, a lot were men, who had done their kits, but they spoke to 3 people who would be interested in doing their kit now and would ring the hub to request one.
Screening information was also provided in different languages relevant to the community needs.
Cervical Screening – Dr Jameel spoke to few ladies about the new changes in the cervical screening inkling the HPV.
Overall the event was successful with more than 60 patients attending for various queries and the information about the screening.
